Performing
Violin
John performs as a violinist with local semi-pro and amateur orchestras in Oxfordshire. He is a highly proficient player, having learned with the inimitable Prof. Sergei Fatkulin in Madrid as a young adult. John regularly plays Diploma standard pieces, and is a fantastic sight reader and leader. John loves making music in the community, so is always happy to hear from local ensembles looking for a violinist or violist.
Piano
John's great passion on the piano is jazz; he worked in a local bar as a background pianist when he was 19 years old and honed his skills on the job. These days he spends most of his time as a pianist accompanying ensembles or soloists. He is always happy to perform background jazz for any occasion; just get in touch!
John's fee is £70 per hour for cocktail jazz piano performances (prices for accompanying are below)
John works regularly at the piano in his role as a teacher, and after more than a decade of accompanying pupils for ABRSM exams is a proficient accompanist. He is happy to accompany all grades and instruments, though needs reasonable time to practice more challenging pieces. Accompaniment fees start at £30 for grade 1, rising to £70 for Grade 8+, which include one rehearsal in advance of the exam itself.

Conducting
Much of John's music making is achieved via the art of conducting. He currently conducts an orchestra, tackling the likes of Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture and Sibelius' Finlandia, and in the image on the left was working with an orchestra of over 150 players in a performance of Walton's Crown Imperial in Birmingham Symphony Hall.
John has a clear and expressive conducting style and enjoys running rehearsals with characteristic humour and high energy. He is open to working with other local groups and looks forward to hearing from you if you are looking for a dynamic conductor who ensures his groups love their rehearsals.
